Parsis, who came to India in the 8th century fleeing Muslim persecution in then Persia, may be heading for slow extinction, and officials warn this can only be checked if the community produces more children. According to the census, as of 2001 the Parsi population in India is 69,601, nearly 7,000 less than that exactly 10 years ago.
