Growing Western intolerance and a series of racial attacks have prompted young Sikh youths to shed their hair and turbans. The trend is a reflection of growing intolerance in the West towards overtly religious clothing – especially veils and turbans – five years after 9/11. Meanwhile, in an effort to bridge the culture-security gap, a Sikh legal group and the US Homeland Security Department have devised a poster meant to help screeners through their interactions with the community.
