In a strident attack, the Archbishop of Nigeria has said that the Windsor Report, published by the Lambeth Commission on Communion on Monday, “falls far short of the prescription needed”. Gene Robinson has said that he regrets that his groundbreaking elevation to the church leadership created turmoil in the Anglican Communion, but feels he was not personally responsible for the rift and is not sorry he was elected.

There is a heated debate in the Anglican Church over what place, if any, homosexuals should have in the church. The church’s new leader, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, has liberal views on the issue, and favors acceptance of gays and lesbians, even in leadership positions. But his view is not universally shared. The controversy is threatening to split one of the world’s largest churches.
