The first Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Buddhist chaplains appointed by the British army to cater to the spiritual needs of soldiers from the minority religions have taken up their posts. The number of soldiers following these religions is low, but officials believe that a beginning has been made and that the appointment of the four chaplains will encourage more youngsters from these religions to join the armed forces.
